Police apprehend man wanted for Belmont shooting

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

A shooting, that occurred in Belmont, was initially reported at the Watertown Police Station around noon on Tuesday December 16, 2008. Four individuals came into the Police Station lobby and reported their vehicle had been shot at several times in Belmont. Shortly after a police radio broadcast of the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with this shooting Watertown Animal Control Officer Karen O’Reilly spotted the vehicle in the area of Watertown Square. She contacted the Watertown Dispatchers and provided detailed information regarding the vehicle until Watertown cruisers converged on the area. Officer Joseph Casella who was working a nearby detail responded and detained the operator as the vehicle was at a red light. Officer Casella will be retiring in January after 28 years of service. Further investigation by Watertown detectives led to the recovery of a hand gun. Pictured below is ACO O’Reilly after getting back to her office at Town Hall.

Whooley Foundation helps to brighten the Holidays

Monday, December 15th, 2008

The Whooley Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in the memory of John “Sonny” Whooley a Watertown Police Officer, resident, father and husband. He loved the community and served it for over thirty years as a Watertown Police Sergeant. He always had a special place in his heart for those less fortunate than himself. He would always strive to make others just a little happier during the holidays.

Our mission is to ensure that no child or family in our community goes without that joy during the holidays. The expectations of children during the holiday season are high and one of the great joys of life is watching our children open their holiday presents.

To make a donation please contact Detective Dave Collins @ 617-972-6544 or you may drop  off at the Police Station.
